Mother of Three Dies After Picking Up Extra Shift, Family Says She “Was Just Trying to Help”

A mother of five who wasn’t even supposed to be at work that day was killed after agreeing to cover an extra shift, a decision her family says reflects the kind of person she always was.

According to reporting from the New York Post, the woman had not been scheduled to work but chose to pick up a shift at a supermarket in Westwood. What was meant to be an ordinary day quickly turned tragic when a vehicle crashed into the store.

Family members described her as selfless and dependable, someone who stepped up when others needed help. They said she agreed to work that day simply because a co-worker needed coverage.

“She was just trying to help,” loved ones said, explaining that she often put others before herself.

Authorities said the crash occurred when a driver lost control and slammed into the supermarket. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the mother was pronounced dead following the incident.

The sudden loss has left her five children and extended family devastated. Relatives said she was deeply involved in her children’s lives and worked hard to provide for them.

In the aftermath, community members have expressed shock and heartbreak, with many noting how random and cruel the circumstances were. A routine shift, one she hadn’t even been scheduled to work, turned into a tragedy that changed multiple lives forever.

Officials are continuing to investigate the crash.

For her family, though, the focus is on remembering who she was: a devoted mother, a reliable co-worker, and someone who showed up when she didn’t have to.
